Lippitt House Museum is an exemplar of Victorian-era design right here on Providence's East Side. It represents a period of Rhode Island history marked by rapid population growth and significant social and cultural changes brought by industrialization. During guided tours, docents bring to life the “Golden Age of Providence” through the stories of the people who lived and worked at Lippitt House in the 19th century and introduce visitors to the elaborate architectural and design features of the house.
If you are passionate about history, architecture, or art; enjoy engaging with people; and like learning new things—then you may enjoy volunteering as a docent. Museum staff provide ongoing training about the house and its history as well techniques for giving tours. Docents volunteer approximately 10 hours a month.
