This Community Corps workshop will feature a panel of Brown University alums who are working with nonprofit and government organizations.  Panel members will reflect on their experiences as undergraduates and now as professionals working in communities. Confirmed panelists include:
  • Andres Idarraga, currently General Counsel at FlexFunds ETP, received his AB from Brown in 2008, where he was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow and a Rose Writing Fellow, and his JD from Yale Law School in 2011. Prior to attending Brown, Andres served more than six years in prison for his role in drug trafficking. While at Brown, Andres worked on the Rhode Island Right to Vote campaign, which was successful in ending felony disenfranchisement in Rhode Island. As a result of that work, he testified in Congress in support of the Democracy Restoration Act of 2009, which would end felony disenfranchisement in federal elections. He co-founded the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project at Yale Law School, which sends law students to New Haven area high schools to teach a year-long course in Constitutional Law. In 2012, Andres co-founded the Transcending Through Education Foundation which provides scholarships and other support services to people in prison and transitioning out of prison who will be pursuing a higher education.

  • Aiyah Josiah-Feudawor graduated from Brown in 2013 with an AB in Public Policy focused in Education Policy.  He then served for two years with the Swearer Center's College Advising Corps, providing college access and supports for "at-promise" youth. Aiyah is the Executive Director of the group Millennial Rhode Island,  an organization committed to giving more young professionals a reason to choose Rhode Island and works at the RI Department of Labor as a Grant Advisor for the Real Jobs RI program, an initiative started by the Governor to engage public and private partnerships to build job pipelines.

  • Megan Smith, MSW is the outreach program manager with the House of Hope CDC. She is involved in outreach, case management, organizing, and advocacy with and for people who are experiencing street homelessness and behavioral health challenges. Megan has been involved in work in the homeless community since connecting with HOPE as a Brown freshman eleven years ago.
