We are seeking one part-time or full-time intern to help us as we further develop our global youth engagement initiative, and including our coordination of World Oceans Day, on June 8th, as a rallying point for the world community to get more involved in creating a more sustainable society and a healthier ocean.
Based in Providence, The Ocean Project has a lean team and counts on bright and enterprising interns to help us grow our efforts around the world. Since 2002, The Ocean Project has been the lead organization coordinating World Oceans Day (www.WorldOceansDay.org) and has grown it into a unique opportunity to mobilize people around the world to do more for ocean conservation. Our global network now includes nearly 2,000 organizations, from aquariums to universities to recreational interests and youth groups. We collaborate with the United Nations, which officially recognized June 8 as World Oceans Day, starting in 2009. Starting in 2012, we focused much more on engaging youth and developing youth leaders for our ocean. This initiative continues to grow.
The intern/s would help the program coordinator and director:
- plan for World Oceans Day 2019, including updating online resources
- coordinate expansion of the Youth Advisory Council. Develop request for applications to join the Council. Looking to double membership and generate involvement from up to two dozen individuals from two dozen countries
- Assist with efforts to grow the global youth network
- Manage the database for targeted email and outreach
- Assist with social media postings on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Interns are provided with plenty of opportunities to help, from social media, to outreach around the world, website updates and marketing campaigns to inform and empower target audiences. Depending on the intern's interests and skills, they are involved with meaningful work from the beginning that results in significant outcomes and impact. For 2018-2019, we are focusing on youth engagement worldwide, plastics pollution prevention, working with aquariums on visitor engagement and policy opportunities to defend our nation's overarching environmental policies. More info about The Ocean Project found on our website/s (www.TheOceanProject.org and www.WorldOceansDay.org).
