About

For the academic year (and each summer), we seek part-time (or full-time for summer) Associates to help us advance our mission for a healthy ocean and stable climate. We focus on regional, national, and international youth engagement and leadership, especially advocacy.

Position overview:

The Associate would be responsible for helping in a variety of ways including assisting with our organizational development, and our major initiatives: global youth engagement and leadership; coordination of World Ocean Day worldwide; conservation policy campaigns, domestically and internationally. Associates are a key part of our team, helping to leverage our global network of 2,000 organizations in 150 countries for action on ocean and climate issues.

We are looking to improve our external communications platforms and capabilities for efficient and effective outreach. We need assistance with regular blog postings, development of regular e-newsletters and updates to our global network. Our database of 28K contacts needs updating and the Associate will also be able to help improve our email marketing capabilities to advance our collaborative conservation mission. We count on interns/associates to help develop new ways for effective communications and campaigns to engage more youth for action.

Associates can work in a shared work office environment and/or virtual. Following onboarding with the team, work is largely conducted independently, with close coordination with and oversight from the 4 professional staff working with The Ocean Project. Read more about who you will work with here. We are a small team and communicate regularly.

The Associate could also help the executive director (based in Providence) with corporate partnerships development:

- Research and target key corporations as potential partners and sponsors for World Ocean Day and youth advocacy
- Develop spreadsheet and other tool to identify and engage with corporate prospects, key contacts and related information
- Draft resources for outreach including presentation and supporting materials
- Customize "pitch decks" for target corporations
- Assist in variety of other ways for developing corporate partners and sponsors
Associates are provided with plenty of opportunities to help, and quickly gain valuable skills and knowledge that will help them in future jobs and career. Depending on the intern's interests and skills, they are involved with meaningful work from the beginning that results in significant outcomes and real impact.
