JOB DESCRIPTION: Coops Development Coordinator Support

                                                                       

Since its inception in 2007, the EJ League has organized with numerous communities around issues of environmental injustice and we continue to work to build power in the communities most affected by environmental burdens by developing leaders to take action to promote safe and healthy environments for all; so that we all have a healthy place to live, work, and play regardless of race, ethnicity, or income.

                                                                       

Coops Development Coordinator Support

Hours: 8-10 hours a week for academic year (weeks?)

Reports to: Executive Director

Collaborates with: All Staff & Board

                                                                       

Overview of Position:                   

·         Work with and support EJLRI members, community members and partners in the development of cooperatives in the state of RI

·         Train other members so as to develop in-house capacity

                                                                                               

Job Responsibilities:                                                                                                           

·         Supports training and development of coops, coops networks, and coop hubs.

·         Successfully trains and implements coop development tools

·         Conducts geographic and asset mapping of local, regional and national coops by sector.

·         Works collaboratively with Kresge Grant Sowing Place Network

·         Develop and maintain strong relationships with EJLRI partners, coalitions, members and coops network.

·         Work with ED to understand EJL’s coops plan

·         Meet every two weeks with Supervisor for check-ins and trainings

·         Support fundraising Efforts for Coops development

 

 

Qualifications:

                                               

·         High level of experience, familiarity, and understanding of Environmental Justice, Climate Justice, Food Justice issues

·         Community organizing experience preferred

·         Strong writing skills

·         Coop development experience preferred but will train

·         Grounded in relationships with individuals and organizations in communities of color.

·         Knowledge of Providence and the surrounding core urban areas preferred.                       

·         Commitment to social justice and community organizing as a strategy to affect change required             

·         Highly organized and detail oriented with experience in managing records 

·         Bilingual English/Spanish (speaking and writing) strongly preferred             

·         Independent and self-­motivated, also able to work in teams

·         Comfortable working in diverse settings and facilitating culturally relevant programming   

·         Familiarity with office and productivity applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Apps,            Apple iWork applications, and/or Evernote

·         Social media, database, website management skills
