About
The Rhode Island Urban Debate League empowers students to expand their minds and project their voices through debate. We equip students with the academic skills, leadership abilities, and ambition to succeed in high school and graduate well-prepared for college, employment, and engaged citizenship.
Coach Assistants (CAs) are essential to our mission. CAs are paired with a Teacher Coach and another CA at a high school in the Providence urban core. In this position, you will be planning and executing debate practices twice a week in collaboration with your Teacher Coach and fellow CA. Additionally, every month we hold a tournament on a Saturday, where CAs are expected to spend the day judging debate rounds and helping to keep the tournament running smoothly.
We are incredibly excited for this year's debate topic: Education Reform. As a CA, you will have the opportunity to engage students in relevant conversations about justice and equity in education--all the while offering debaters valuable and concrete skills that come with constructing cohesive arguments. At the same time, we are an organization with the mission of empowering students utilizing debate as a tool. This means, in part, that we encourage CAs and students to form relationships with debaters that extend beyond just discussing debate strategies. In fact, our organization could not thrive without these relationships.
