POSITION DESCRIPTION: DANCE MENTOR

Through a rigorous arts-integrated program, TAPA, a public charter school in Providence, Rhode Island, cultivates artist-scholars who are prepared for collegiate and professional success and leadership in a global society. The dance program at TAPA is a comprehensive program which focuses on both movement technique (Latin, West-African, Hip Hop, Modern, Ballet, & Yoga) as well as dance (Choreographing, Composing, Devising, and Performing) as a tool for inquiry around interdisciplinary questions and contemporary themes such as power, oppression, balance, beauty, representation, independence, movement, and transformation.
HOURS: Flexible based on availability/interest (includes planning, meeting, and instructional time)
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: September - June
QUALIFICATIONS:

BCI Background Check

High School Graduate
-
Teaching or Tutoring Experience

Engaged in Multi-Disciplinary Creative Practice

Choreography or Dance Experience Preferred

Excellent Reading Comprehension & Writing Skills

Interest in Culturally Responsive Arts Integration & Literacy Education
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
-
Meeting regularly with Dance Artist in Residence to discuss curriculum planning, student performance, and instructional goals
-
Supervising an After School Dance Company (3:00-5:00pm) or Project with the approval of the Dance Artist in Residence and TAPA Administration
-
Mentor Dance Majors in dance technique by providing one-on-one support, facilitating group workshops, creating original choreography, and support students’ creative process
-
Teaching original choreography for school and community performances

Supporting Dance Majors to participate in professional and collegiate arts communities
-
Literacy Integration Work:
-
Work with Academic Departments to analyze test score data and determine target Common Core Standards for Arts Integration in the Dance curriculum
-
Design curriculum to integrate target Common Core Standards into Dance Curriculum
-
Facilitate and assess rigorous dance/literacy integrated projects with Dance Majors
-
Provide one-on-one support for Dance Majors in reading comprehension and writing skills
-
Push in to ELA classes to observe and support instruction and curriculum
-
Push in to ELA classes to plan, facilitate and assess arts/literacy integrated projects
