About

PetsEmpower is a nonprofit based in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  We arrange free, temporary pet-fostering for low-income pet owners in crisis who can't afford pet-boarding.  These crises range from eviction, hospitalization, addicts seeking to enter rehab, or domestic violence victims seeking to enter shelters.  Low-income pet owners in crisis face horrible choices: stay with their pet but decline the help they need, or seek the help they need but relinquish their pet.  PetsEmpower connects these crisis victims with a pet-foster within our large network of pet-fostering volunteers; we provide the pet transport, food, and vet care.  Eventually, when the crisis victims are back on their feet, they reunite with their beloved companions.
