Position Description

The Bridging the Gap Project (BTG) Intern will work with staff and volunteers at Clínica Esperanza/Hope Clinic to organize and evaluate the components of the Bridging the Gap: Partnerships in Health project. Participants in our the BTG program become partners in their own healthcare, fully engaged in comprehensive, long-term care at CEHC and in the health education programs offered at the clinic. We have seen significant positive outcomes for patients who remain engaged, and we have documented these health improvements in terms of controlled blood sugar, significantly lower HBA1C, lower weights, improved blood pressures, and greater participation in healthy exercise. Now entering its third year, the BTG program is expanding to develop stronger connections with our partner organizations in Olneyville and the surrounding areas.

We expect that the intern will be involved in the following tasks:

<>·       <>Working with partners in the community to organize collaborations, including outreach screenings and specialized classes or support groups

<>·       <>Aiding in the process of data entry and evaluation for the BTG project

<>·       <>Communicating with stakeholders at Lifespan, Blue Cross Blue Shield RI, and more to determine how we can demonstrate the cost savings that our interventions produce

<>·       <>Meeting with our data partners to create a plan of action for evaluating the effectiveness of our programs and for developing a Pay for Success financial model

CEHC staff, including current Project Managers and data analysis volunteers, will work with the BTG Intern to complete these tasks throughout the semester and will be available to provide support and answer any questions they may have along the way. The BTG Intern's work will be of great benefit to the clinic, because it will help us to carry out our plans for expanding this project and to evaluate the impact that we have on this population. We hope that we will be able to demonstrate the importance and cost-effectiveness of our work so that we can make the case for funders to increase their support of the clinic, allowing us to provide high-quality free care to more uninsured patients. We also hope that this position will be beneficial and productive for the BTG Intern, as they will have the opportunity to gain skills in project management, data analysis, professional communication and more.

The position is best suited for someone who is highly organized, a good communicator, adaptive, and flexible. The Intern would be expected to work 6-10 hours per week. Their specific hours on site is somewhat flexible, but ideally, the Intern would be available for weekly staff meetings on Thursday afternoons (4:30-5:30).

Interested applicants should send an email to meghanm@aplacetobehealthy.org with a cover letter and resume. The subject line of your email should be "BTG Project Intern" followed by your first and last name.
