Jonathan and I met to call Elizabeth, who is working on the Youth Count Event. We called to do a check-in
Jonathan and I called each Laura, who is another volunteer at House of Hope, to discuss planning for the Youth Count Event.
I thought that the event went great! We worked well as a team to set-up and take down everything and I was glad that so many people were encouraged to attend the event. Since I was primarily taking care of supplies, I noticed during the event what was being most requested as I was helping everyone get what they needed and I sent an email to Tory after the event about particularly requested items. However, while the event was going on, I sometimes felt overwhelmed by the amount of people who were trying to get supplies. It was hard to keep everything organized and to find what I needed when someone asked me for help. I think that there is probably an easier way to manage supplies during events and I hope that we get the chance to talk about it before the the next one.
It was great to catch-up and have a team meeting to hear all about the work that everyone has been putting in to make the fall event successful.
Even though I was only there for a little bit, it was a great to join House of Hope for their intern group supervision. It was interesting to hear about the House of Hope outreach approach and I enjoyed hearing about the high points from the last week.
I thought that are meeting with Sojourner House was very insightful! Although I had researched Sojourner House for the resource guide, I still had not known about all of their programs and the resources they provided. It was great to get to know them better as well as share what we do as Home to Hope.
I went to Sojourner House to learn more about the resources they offer and how H2H can create a partnership with them.
At our final team meeting of the semester, I was glad that we got to share our hopes for the future of H2H. We also spoke about our summer plans, the next semester, and got to say good bye to some of the team members.
I thought that we had a great launch party of the drop-in center! I'm glad that we had replies to our housing options question and those who were not current clients coming to the event. It also provided an opportunity to get to know members of the community and community organizations.
Jonathan and I went to help out at H2H Youth Space Opening event.
I was a recorder for outreach on Monday and I thought that we engaged with quite a few people in Kennedy Plaza and at the ice rink. I was glad that I saw someone that I hadn't in a while and found out how she was doing. I was able to work on my skills as a recorder and I continued to learn from how Tory approaches and builds relationships with those that we talk with on outreach.
Today Tory Clark and I attended the Central Falls HS transitions faire to do event-based outreach to the high schoolers there. This was a lot of fun for a couple reasons — first just hanging out w/ Tory and Clark, second because I had never been to Central Falls (and hadn't been to a high school in a while!), and third because we were able to do a HUGE amount of outreach. When we do street-based outreach, many of the young people we approach are not experiencing housing insecurity; at the fair, we were able to reach all of those people + more in a very quick and streamlined way, explaining to probably hundred+ students what H2H does and how to get in contact with Tory. Also I got to work on my "elevator pitch" for H2H which is always important!!
Tory, Clark, and I also attended an open youth recovery meeting at the Jim Gillen Anchor Teen Recovery Center in Providence today. This was a cool experience because we got to see how another resource helps to build community among vulnerable populations of youth. We played a game with the staff and youth there, and then talked a little about the resources available for recovery in RI — honestly, not a lot, but we were happy to learn about what the Recovery Center itself can offer to our clients. Also, this event fit well in terms of my long-term experiences learning about the intersections of substance abuse and homelessness w/ H2H.
We discussed our individual updates during the team meeting, but I'm most glad that we got a chance to say goodbye to Julnelle at the meeting.
Instead of our weekly meeting, we helped organize supplies pack for our event. Then, Rachel, Tory, and I went on a street outreach at Kennedy Plaza.
Jonathan and I had a phone call with Tory to discuss what changes or addition we should make to the website.
I sent another email to Sojourner House to solidify our visit and how many people would be attending. We then finished the FAQ sheet, submitted it to Tory, and spent the rest of the time working on the flyers.

At the team meeting, we got the chance to discuss what everyone was individually working on. Bella, Sunil, and I shared our experiences from the GSA conference and we further talked about the drop-in center event.
