William D'Abate Elementary School/D'Abate Community School

Today our chess team had our first match....against the Wheeler School. It was pretty intimidating for our team to walk into such a well resourced private school. The kids were pretty amazed by the upscale bathrooms and the facility. This was their first match but they held their own, despite nerves and the fact that Wheeler's team is the best in the state. After the match, Daniel noted that our team "had no chance" because the Wheeler students' parents play chess and sign their children up for private lessons. I reminded him that this was his own experience with chess and the match gave us opportunity to reflect on our privilege.
