I learned a lot and had fun.
Today was my first official shift working for Connect for Health at the Center for Primary Care (CPC). I was definitely eased into the work of being an Advocate because I was given a nice tour, and was able to witness a more seasoned advocate performing an intake with two clients. To make the most of my time, I familiarized myself with the desk and the materials on and adjacent to it. I noticed that the "Adult Commodities" handouts were really low so I printed out some more and filled the file folder. Overall, I am content with my decision to join Connect for Health and work with this amazing community of students and clients.
Today was the New Advocate Orientation at Gerry House (142 Borden St, Providence, RI). We were introduced to the Connect for Health Campus Coordinators, administrators and mentors. The presentation went over what being a Connect for Health Advocate entails and the many people in place to support us and ask questions of. It was nice to meet other Brown students passionate about service, Health and the Providence community. The whole atmosphere was very welcoming. It was enriching and pleasant.
