Today I worked with the students on the writing portion of the SAT. We discussed general strategies and tips for this section, such as process of elimination, consistency in tenses, and when to use 'me/I'. Afterwards we took a practice exam for this section and at the end of the session we went over the answers.
I volunteered with my co-tutor at Tolman High. This week we focused on the essay portion on the SAT. Since all of the students will be taking the SAT this Saturday, we also focused on some topics that they wanted some last-minute help on, such as geometry and math word problems.
Today I worked with my co-tutor to coordinate a lesson plan for the high school students. We had a great turn-out today, with over 6 students attending the tutoring session. The point of emphasis for today was reading comprehension. After we went over some strategies and tips for this section on the SAT, the students read a passage and answered sample questions. We went over the answers afterwards.
Today I tutored for the second time. Since last week was spent mostly on informing the high school students on SAT strategies and tips for their test day, this week was spent mostly on math problems of varying difficulties. The topics covered were absolute values, geometry, and exponential rules.
Today was the first day that I tutored at William E. Tolman High School in Pawtucket, RI. I met with Liz Ramon and discussed general strategies and tips for taking the SAT with the high school students. After my co-tutor and I talked about the section and point layouts of the test, we completed a handful of math problems on the white board. We conducted mini-lessons of trigonometry, complex numbers, and conics.
