We are wrapping up for our program. I have received my check list to sign out. I need to record chrome books and supplies, as well as make sure that everything on the check list is completed before I leave.
Today was fun night, we had a line up of activities planned for the students - staff talent show, fright night and student vs. teacher basketball game. I was in charge of emergency contact book in case there are medical emergencies. I also helped signing in students as they arrived in the afternoon and helped with dismissal.
We are preparing for tomorrow's fun night, which is the biggest event of the summer. My main task was to collect permission slips and ensure that all students are communicating with their parents about the schedule for tomorrow night.
Today was Family/Alumni Day, where family members of current students and past students came to observe classes and look at the progress of the program so far. We also had student talent show. It was nice to see students enjoying themselves, and students really liked activities like this that are outside their academic settings.
We need to arrange family student teacher conferences as the program is approaching its end. I made phone calls with parents to arrange those meetings and made sure that each have a scheduled time to come in next week.
This week we have two big events - Family Alumni Day and Summerbridge Fun Night, which are the two biggest events this summer. Hence, this week is going to be a lot of work - organizing volunteers, contacting parents. It is important to manage my life and work, especially as it is getting more hectic as the days progress.
I taught a math class today because a teacher was absent. I realize how demanding and difficult it is to be a middle school teacher. I now have even more respect for higher ed teachers and hope to work on my ability in teaching.
Because we are reaching the end of the program, there are more events that are coming up for us to prepare for. For instance, it is Arts and Science exploration day on Friday and I need to ensure that I communicate with the organizer for everything to run smoothly.
We are more than half way through the program. It is important to keep our energy levels up, as it can be sometimes overwhelming with such constantly demanding schedule. Staff members are very supportive of each other and are checking in to make sure that we are fine.
Took daily attendance, distributed breakfast/lunch. Today's staff meeting we had more serious conversations about how to improve certain lesson plans and more effective systems for communication between teachers and staff members.
